Our program has the unexpected ability to offer a PGY-4 position, as one of our categorical PGY-3 residents has been accepted into an outstanding 2 year MIS research fellowship. Our institution is dedicated to resident education, and there are simply too many senior-level cases, such as esophagectomies, trauma laparotomies, and advanced robotic cases, for the remaining number of residents. We would be delighted to share these experiences with a trainee interested in our program.
The University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville has 5 categorical general surgery residents per year and provides strong clinical experience in the breadth of general surgery, including trauma, emergency general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, transplantation, and other disciplines. Opportunities for elective rotations, quality improvement projects, and research, are also supported.
As an academically rigorous program with nationally-recognized faculty, we also provide an excellent foundation for surgical careers. Our trainees have successfully matched into highly competitive specialties, including vascular, surgical critical care, plastics, pediatric surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery.
Applicants must have successfully completed or be currently completing 3 years of general surgery training. Strong preference will be given to current PGY-3 residents in good standing who are interested in relocating for family, geographic, or other personal/professional reasons.
