Come train at the largest trauma center and first surgical critical care fellowship in the region! In 2016 we started the region's first surgery residency. In 2019, we created a 10 bed open concept, academic trauma unit. In 2021, we became the Rio Grande Valley's first level 1 trauma center; we added ECMO capabilities in 2023.
Now as we continue to expand, we are looking for the first surgical critical care fellow to be trained in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. We have a new 1 year ACGME accredited position, and are attempting to fill it outside the match for this summer. We are in a medically underserved region with a 92% Hispanic population (1.4 million total population). We are located in Edinburg, TX a few miles from the Mexican border. We are located in a sub-tropical region of the United States.
Fellows will mainly learn in our Surgical Intensive Care Unit while supervising our residents. They will also have a chance to participate in taking care of a busy trauma service. If you have a sense of adventure, and are curious about the US-Mexico border, come be a trail blazer and set the stage for all future trauma surgeons to be trained in the region.
Must have completed at least 3 years of general surgery residency.
