Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

As a quaternary referral center located in vibrant center city Philadelphia, Jefferson offers a high acuity surgical ICU experience that includes complex elective and emergent general surgery, advanced surgical oncology and multi-organ transplantation.

Additionally, Jefferson is one of only a few Level I trauma and regional resource spinal cord injury centers in the country and is also our region's hand replant center, eye referral center and a burn center, thus providing a unique and complete mix of multi-injured and acutely ill patients. Jefferson is also a Shock referral center and ECMO center. Multidisciplinary training is provided in ECMO and neuro-critical care as well.

The one-year surgical critical care position starts August 1, 2023 and is based solely at our main university hospital. Rotations exist in the SICU, NICU, MICU, CVICU as well as included elective time (examples pre-hospital/interfacility transport care, ID, palliative care, renal etc) and time on the EGS service and in-house trauma call throughout the year.

Fellows are never first call and are to displace the attending rather than ever the resident. In addition to a broad base critical care experience, fellows graduate with approximately 75-100 operative cases beyond bedside tracheostomies and PEGs with a focus in spine exposure surgery, burn care and operative trauma.

Prerequisites:

Applicants must have completed at a minimum three clinical years of general surgery residency and eligible to train in the United States.
