Advanced Oncology Fellowship

The one-year Advanced Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, is designed for physicians who have completed an accredited Medical Oncology fellowship and who are planning a career in one of seven specialty areas:

  • Thoracic malignancies
  • Gynecologic malignancies
  • Gastroenterologic malignancies
  • Endocrine malignancies
  • Melanoma
  • Drug development and phase I clinical trials
  • Breast oncology

The fellowship offers:

  • Preparation for a career with expertise in the above areas
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary approaches to patients with oncologic disorders
  • Research opportunities in clinical, translational, and basic science research

Prerequisites:

To apply to the Advanced Oncology Fellowship, you need to have successfully completed accredited training in internal medicine and oncology. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or foreign nationals who have or qualify for appropriate visa sponsorship and are eligible for a Minnesota medical license.

How To Apply:

If you have not yet taken the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 3 examination by the application date, you must declare your intent to pass it by January, six months prior to the start date, to be considered for the Advanced Oncology Fellowship. Adequate time for licensure by July is a requirement for starting the fellowship.

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission
  2. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials
  3. After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
  • Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section (if applicable)
  • Complete the Recommendation Request section (if applicable)

In addition to the standard application materials required by Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, this program requires:

  • Letters of recommendation from your fellowship and residency program directors. These must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. Each recommender will receive an email with a link to upload a letter.
