Academic General Pediatrics Fellowship Position

Academic General Pediatrics Fellowship Position

Accredited by the Academic Pediatric Association, the Academic General Pediatrics (AGP) Fellowship at Stony Brook University (SBU) is designed to develop the next generation of academic generalists by providing them with expertise in the:

  • planning and execution of patient-oriented and health services outcomes research
  • development of state of the art educational curricula, strategies and scholarship to pediatric trainees; and
  • clinical care of pediatric patients in the inpatient and/or outpatient settings.

The overall goal of the program is to prepare a cadre of pediatricians to become the next generation of physician-researchers and academic leaders in primary care pediatric research. This program promotes career development through flexible and multidisciplinary mentoring combined with didactic course work linked to the overall objectives of the program that will be customized to support the specific career development needs and research project interests for each trainee. At the completion of the fellowship program, the AGP fellow is expected to graduate with a masters-level degree (MPH or MS).

In addition, each fellow will complete a mentored research program in Health Services/Clinical Outcomes Research. In addition to the formal coursework, the fellow will participate in weekly pediatrics research works-in-progress meetings and monthly multidisciplinary research presentations. Possible future academic career options for program graduates include development and leadership of pediatric complex disease management programs, careers in health services/clinical outcomes research or clinical science investigation; educational program development; leadership of QA/QI programs and/or administrative leadership.

Fellows have an option to receive an added certification as an Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science® Medical Scholar. This certification requires additional didactic and experiential training.
