Clinical Nutrition Fellowship

The one-year fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital, is specifically designed for physicians who have completed their medical residency or at least 3 years of their general surgery training as well as people completing fellowships in other areas such as gastroenterology, critical care medicine, and primary care medicine.

Our program focuses on physician management of patients who have complex medical or surgical conditions that require nutrition support in the form of parenteral or non-oral enteral nutrition. The fellow will develop clinical, critical thinking and teaching skills in the area of clinical nutrition including indications for parenteral and enteral nutrition, management of nutrition support when indicated, short and long term parenteral and enteral access issues, prevention and management of venous catheter and feeding tube complications.

Fellows will train with highly qualified nutrition support certified registered dietitians and work under the direct supervision of our Nutrition Support Attending Physicians. They will have research opportunities with the Center for Surgery and Public Health at Harvard Medical School and will be expected to engage in an academic activity, at the end of which, the fellow will produce a manuscript for publication. At the end of the training, the fellow is expected to sit for the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition’s examination and become a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC).

Prerequisites:

Applicants must have completed a 3 year residency program or 3 years of a surgical residency program to be eligible. If not a US citizen, a J-1 visa will be required. ECFMG certification required.
