The orthopedic residency program was established at Nassau University Medical Center in 2015 with the mission to provide a broad experience in orthopedics in a supportive learning environment. Our residents have a strong educational curriculum mixed with a vast clinical experience including daily outpatient clinics in sports medicine, spine surgery, pediatric orthopedics, fracture care, hand surgery and joint replacement surgery. The residents also cover our Level 1 trauma service and interact in our multidisciplinary hip fracture service.
The program incorporates rotations specific to each major subspecialty of orthopedics to provide a focused experience. Both outpatient and inpatient experiences are included, as well as operative and non-operative methods of treatment for a wide variety of orthopedic conditions. Emphasis in clinical training is placed on giving each resident sufficient graded responsibility to assure that upon completion of training they will have ample experience and knowledge to make important clinical decisions and the skill to perform an extensive variety of major and minor orthopedic procedures.
