Hip Preservation and Reconstruction Fellowship

The Steadman Philippon Research Institute is offering a one-year Hip Preservation and Reconstruction Fellowship beginning August 1st and concluding July 31st.

Under the guidance of Dr. Marc Philippon and Dr. Joel Matta, this fellowship provides in-depth training in adolescent and adult hip preservation surgery. As a world leader in hip arthroscopy technique and innovation, Dr. Philippon has trained many prominent surgeons in hip arthroscopy. He joined The Steadman Clinic in 2005 and is currently the Managing Partner of the Steadman Clinic and serves as the Co-chairman and Co-Director of the Steadman Philippon Research Institute Sports Medicine Fellowship.

The fellow will learn the most current hip arthroscopy techniques for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement, labral tears and chondral damage. The fellow will also come to understand the causes of revision hip arthroscopy and will develop the skills to treat these conditions. Dr. Matta, recognized internationally for his work in hip surgery relating to trauma, preservation and the anterior approach arthroplasty, started his Hip and Pelvis Fellowship in 1990 in Los Angeles. Many surgeons completing this fellowship are now leaders in hip surgery. Dr. Matta joined The Steadman Clinic in 2017.

Working with Dr. Matta, the fellow will learn to perform periacetabular osteotomies for the treatment of hip dysplasia. The fellow will also focus on primary and revision hip arthroplasty, with an emphasis on the anterior approach. With an international referral base, The Steadman Clinic is a world-renowned center for the Orthopaedic care of professional and recreational athletes. This fellowship will, therefore, provide a high volume of hip arthroscopy, PAO and THA cases. In addition, the fellow will have access to the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, a leader in the research of Musculoskeletal Regenerative Medicine, Biomotion and Biomechanics with NIH and DOD grants totaling over $5.7 million.

With the rapidly evolving nature of hip surgery, Drs. Philippon and Matta believe this fellowship provides a unique opportunity for elite-level training in the latest techniques for hip preservation through arthroscopic and open surgery.

Prerequisites:

Fellowship candidates should have completed a U.S residency in Orthopedic Surgery, be eligible for a Colorado Medical license and have a strong interest in the area of hip preservation surgery.
