General Surgery Residency - Preliminary Position

General Surgery Residency - Preliminary Position

The Loyola University Medical Center General Surgery Residency training program is looking to fill a one year PGY2 preliminary resident position beginning on June 22, 2020.

The Department of Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center is a multi-specialty surgical service. The Department has eleven divisions including General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Intra-Abdominal Transplantation, GI/Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Trauma/Surgical Critical Care/Burn Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Medicine, and Surgical Research. In collaboration with the Burn Shock Trauma Institute and the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center Oncology Research Institute, the Department has developed active research programs in burn, shock and trauma injury, health services research, inflammation, oncology, and vascular biology. Research funding is derived from a variety of sources including the NIH.

The Department bears the distinction as one of the few surgery departments in the country with two NIH-training grants to support resident research. The typical PGY2 schedule includes acute care surgery, vascular surgery and critical care rotations combined with increased operative experience as the senior resident on community general surgery and endocrine surgery. During this year, PGY2 residents continue developing their clinical skills developed in the first year to assist them in the transition to increased autonomy as a junior surgical resident.
