Advanced Echocardiography Imaging Fellowship

The Stanford Echocardiography and Cardiovascular Imaging section offers a one-year non-ACGME fellowship program.

This dedicated clinical imaging fellowship training is echo focused, designed to provide advanced echo training and fulfill the COCATS requirements for level III training in echo, including significant experience with transesophageal echo guidance of transcatheter structural interventions. Structural interventions currently offered at Stanford include mitral valve repair, mitral valve replacement, tricuspid repair, tricuspid replacement, paravalvular regurgitation repair, left atrial appendage occlusion, and atrial and ventricular septal defect closure. It is expected that fellows that complete this training will pursue board certification in echocardiography.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion and passing of all three USMLE steps
  • ABIM board certified or board eligible in general adult cardiology
  • The accepted applicant must obtain a California medical license
  • A valid ECFMG certificate for all foreign medical graduates
  • Only J-1 visas accepted
  • Completion of previous cardiology fellowship training is required

Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year will be reviewed on a rolling basis, beginning in December 2023. Interviews occur during the month of February 2024.

  • USMLE Transcript (Steps 1-3)
  • Medical School Transcript
  • ECFMG certificate for all foreign medical graduates
  • Letters of Recommendation (3)
    1. One of the 3 letters must be from Cardiology Fellowship Program Director or Chief of Cardiology
    2. Two other letters from cardiology faculty
