Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Research Fellowship

The Duke Center for Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Research Fellowship Program is a one-year program in which the fellow is responsible for the design and follow through of several research programs within the division. Fellows are strongly encouraged to pursue their own projects/ideas.

The program was created in 2017 with the purpose of training young medical professionals in all aspects of clinical and basic science research. We believe that the modern physician must not only be a talented clinician, but researcher as well.

Duke Surgery has been the largest awardee of NIH funding of any surgical department in the nation. As such, numerous research opportunities are available. Previous fellows have been involved in diverse fields of research including basic science bench work, pre-clinical vivarium research, outcomes research and clinical trials. These experiences have resulted in podium presentations in national and international conferences as well as published manuscripts in several relevant peer-reviewed journals within the surgery community.
