Trauma and General Surgery Research Fellow This job will support all phases of General Surgery and Trauma research. The fellow can expect to gain significant experience in research methodology, writing, & outcomes research. The responsibilities will include support of protocol and manuscript development process, coordination of data collection, patient follow-up and tracking, and data entry.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has completed their medical training and is interested in working closely with the Surgical Residency Program Director and the Trauma Medical Director in a research fellow capacity. Successful candidates will also be permitted to attend resident training lectures, select conferences, and may be permitted to participate in the ABSITE as appropriate.

Your Job Responsibilities:

  • Collect data on prospective studies and conduct chart reviews or data extraction for retrospective studies
  • Screen patients for eligibility, consent them for participation and provide necessary follow-up including phone calls for follow-ups for various studies.
  • Assist the research scientist in preparing the data for analysis, formatting and completing study submission for publication to appropriate organizations
  • Compile IRB applications for PI initiated studies including literature review, data assimilation, and attaining relevant signatures.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with completion of all relevant documents including continuing review applications, reporting of adverse events (or severe adverse events) etc. Assumes technical responsibilities for specimen collections including blood samples, centrifugation, shipping of samples etc.
  • Completes all applicable research billing in compliance with procedures
  • Ensures all study documents are complete and the records are retained per federal, state and institutional standards.

Prerequisites:

Your Job Requirements:

  • Eligible candidates must hold an MD/DO degree with previous research experience.
  • Desire to contribute to improved evidence based practices for the care of surgical and trauma patients
  • Firm knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as some experience with statistical packages such as SPSS or SAS.
  • Experience with statistical methods and large online datasets preferred
  • Two year commitment to the research program is mandatory.
