Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Position

Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Position

This is an ACGME-accredited fellowship program (PGY-5) sponsored by the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. We are recruiting for the 2021-2022 academic year. This is a one-year program with training at multiple clinical sites including the Central New York Psychiatric Center; the JCAHO accredited forensic psychiatric hospital of the New York State prison system. There is a substantial component of didactic training at the Syracuse University College of Law. Dedicated research support is also available. Fellows receive intensive supervision by the director, and have the opportunity to work at every stage of a private consultation with James Knoll IV, one the world’s top forensic experts. And in regard to the training we diligently work on report writing with the fellows with an significant degree of care and detail.

At the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Upstate Medical University/CNYPC, we do our best to train fellows without the need to overload them needlessly. We do not have any fellow-dependent rotations (such as needing to carry a patient load on the forensic unit, etc.), so we ensure flexibility in the schedule- no need to get "coverage" before vacation, etc. We do our best to find that balance - just enough to provide you with the skills and training at the top level- but also with enough free time to still enjoy life. We also have a decent salary for the fellow level which ($100,000.00).

Past cases that fellows have been involved with have included: analysis of serial murder, malpractice in corrections, stalking, fitness for duty, and necrophilia. Fellows also receive intensive training in multiple settings (jail, prison, forensic hospital) in addition to a significant focus on expertise in report writing and testimony. Fellows also collaborate with various law enforcement personnel to assist with threat assessments and workplace violence cases.
