Advanced Thoracic Surgical Oncology Fellowship

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a non-accredited advanced training opportunity in complex thoracic surgery for individuals who will have completed a cardiothoracic training program, are board certified or board eligible (or their equivalent), and are interested in an additional intensive experience in advanced thoracic surgical oncology.

The Thoracic Surgical Oncology Fellowship is a one-year program designed to provide in-depth exposure to the multidisciplinary treatment of all types of thoracic malignancies. The fellow will spend the entire duration on the Thoracic Surgery Service. Depending on interest and availability, the fellow may have the opportunity to spend one to two months of elective time on allied services such as GI, medical oncology, or radiation oncology, or on research. The fellow should be capable of leading a multidisciplinary effort in thoracic oncology by the time he or she graduates.

Prerequisites:

Applicants must have completed their training in cardiothoracic surgery by the time they begin the fellowship, and be Board-certified or Board-eligible. Foreign medical graduates with equivalent qualifications who have completed the USMLE examinations and hold a valid ECFMG certificate are also eligible to apply.

  • Current CV
  • Personal statement: This should include a description of the candidate’s personal qualifications and motivation for applying to the program, as well as a detailed professional plan to return to his or her country upon completion of training
  • Three letters of recommendation addressed to Dr. James Huang: One of these letters must be from the department chairman or division chief.
  • Photograph
  • ECFMG full certification (if not US trained): Applicants must have completed USMLE Steps 1, 2CK, and 2CS prior to submitting an application to our program
