The Department offers a two-year ACGME accredited fellowship in Neuropathology. The fellowship emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis of diseases of the nervous system. The service includes a wide spectrum of cases encompassing neoplasms, neurodegenerative disorders, perinatal/neurodevelopmental disorders, infectious diseases and neuromuscular diseases.
Cases are worked up routinely using morphology, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostic assays. In addition, there are rotations dedicated to cancer cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics. The fellows will also rotate in pediatric neuropathology at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) and attend weekly joint meetings at BCH.
Fellows participate daily in signout, frozen-section diagnosis, and weekly brain-cuttings. Fellows steer weekly interdisciplinary brain tumor conference, neuropathology/cytogenetics conference and teach pathology residents, Harvard Medical students, and neurology residents and clinical fellows.
