Acute Care/ Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant Residency

The UCSF Fresno Acute Care/Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) Residency Program affiliated with the UCSF School of Medicine is offering a twelve-month surgical residency program that provides intense training in the perioperative and operative management of patients. The majority of training takes place at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno, California; residents will also spend minimal time at 2 other hospitals in Fresno and in clinical settings with the surgeons in their private clinics. CRMC is the only American College of Surgeons (ACS) verified Level 1 trauma center and burn unit serving San Joaquin Valley with a population of almost four million people.

PA Residents will develop critical thinking and surgical assistant skills throughout the year. Residents can expect to gain the fundamentals of surgical care through both didactic and clinical settings in a multitude of surgery subspecialties to best prepare for a career in surgery. Surgical rotations include, general surgery, burns, orthopedics, ACS/trauma, ER, urology, Trauma ICU, Surgical ICU, vascular and USA oncology (hepato-pancreato-biliary HPB, breast, endocrine). A skills lab curriculum is utilized to refine skills and ultimately improve quality of patient care. The curriculum is designed to prepare the physician assistant for a variety of practice settings and a wide spectrum of patients.
