Cardiac Replacement Therapy Fellowship

The Cardiac Replacement Therapy Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is designed to provide intensive experience and training in the evaluation and treatment of patients with advanced heart failure, focusing on innovative strategies to provide cardiac replacement, in the form of device support.

As a Cardiac Replacement Therapy fellow, you play an integral role in the management of a wide pathological spectrum of clinical heart failure, to include:

  • Initial diagnostic evaluation
  • Chronic management strategies
  • High-risk cardiac surgical and percutaneous interventions
  • Cardiac transplantation
  • Mechanical circulatory device therapy
  • End-of-life care and management

This one-year program includes exposure to clinical research in the field of heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

Prerequisites:

To be eligible for the Cardiac Replacement Therapy Fellowship, you must have successfully completed three years of cardiovascular training after residency. In addition, completion of one of the following examinations is required:

  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) — steps 1, 2CK, 2CS and 3
  • Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) — all levels
  • Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) — parts 1 and 2

Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification is required.
