We offer focused training in diagnostic gynecologic pathology, with emphasis on teaching and scholarship, through our Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved-accredited program. Fellows gain expertise in obstetrical and gynecological pathology within a Division that has an annual intake exceeding 10,000 diverse specimens per year, providing you with a solid overview of the field and enabling you to practice as a specialist.
Fellows are on-service for the initial two of 13 four-week blocks during the year, to gain familiarity with service flow and grossing protocols. Off-service, there are nine clinical blocks during which you are responsible for supervising rotating residents/fellows, handling consult cases, and serving as Junior Attending. There is an additional elective block and finally, an optional block on Frozen Section duty.
Our fellows run intra- and interdepartmental conferences with members of the Departments of Pathology, Obstetrics- Gynecology, and Division of Gynecologic Oncology. You also run our Quality Assurance program and undertake a Quality Improvement project. At the beginning of the nine off-service clinical blocks, you serve as Junior Attending by sitting in place of the attending once or twice every week, and signing the cases with the house staff. Afterward, cases are reviewed by or with the attending.
