Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking two Surgical Critical Care fellows. The two surgery critical care fellows will start August 2022. University Medical Center of El Paso, an ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center, is the primary teaching facility for TTUHSC El Paso faculty, residents and medical students.

We are the only Level I Trauma Center in a 270-mile radius of El Paso. This fellowship will provide a robust clinical experience in trauma and critical care, including electives in multiple units. The fellow will work closely with four full-time surgical intensivists, an additional SICU fellow and general surgery residents. The primary site will have at least eight months of surgical critical care as required by the ACGME and four months of elective rotations: Cardiac ICU, Neuro ICU, Trauma or PICU. There will be a simulation activity regarding end-of-life care for an unconscious individual on a ventilator. The fellow will take part in a trauma morbidity and mortality conference, held monthly. During this conference, every presentation is discussed as to root causes as well as classification with the Clavien-Dindo classification of adverse events. There is also didactic material regarding near-misses.
