Addiction Medicine Fellowship

Loyola University Medical Center provides an exciting elective track opportunity in collaboration with Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital for a start date of July 1 each year. This fellowship is open to an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine resident interested in advanced training and clinical experience in addiction medicine. The elective track was founded in 2011 and graduated its first resident in June 2012. Beginning each September, we will be accepting applications for the following July 1 start date. Application deadline is the mid of February each year.

The individual selected for this position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working under the supervision of several addiction psychiatrists. We treat patients across all ages and genders with all types of addictions in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including patients with complex co-morbid diagnoses. Individuals will receive training in evidence based medical management and psychotherapy.

Prerequisites:

Qualified applicants must have completed 3 years of an ACGME-accredited residency program at the time of entry into the program and be eligible for a permanent Illinois medical license by the start of the fellowship. The anticipated start date is July 1 each year, with some flexibility if needed.

  • Personal Statement describing the development and current direction of your interest in Addiction Medicine (500 words or less)
  • Training verification:
    • Documentation of completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine I.e. Final Note to File if residency training has been completed and a copy of residency diploma; or if residency is not yet completed, a signed letter from Program Director indicating rotations completed to date and expected rotations to be completed
    • OR
    • Letter from Program Director stating that applicant has completed all pre-requisites and rotation requirements to be able to sit in general psychiatry boards, including 3 clinical skills examinations. Letter should also summarize other competencies that applicant has successfully completed/remediated within his/her training program (INFO on preCertABPN)
  • Professional Letters of Reference (3), including one from current Program Director (if relevant)
  • USMLE Score Report (Step 1-3) & / or COMLEX Score Report (Levels 1-3)
  • Copy of Medical School Transcript
  • Copy of State medical License
  • Copy of ECFMG certificate (if applicable; include test scores, if applicable)
  • Copy of current work authorization if not a US citizen
