The Department of Surgery at Montefiore-Einstein is accepting applications for a two-year T32 Research Fellowship for the cycle beginning in July 2022. This research training program, entitled “Training of Surgeon Scientists in Basic and Translational Research” is funded by a Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA T32 grant from the NCI/NIH and is designed for surgical residents to spend two years of dedicated research training in basic and translational research.
The training program consists of two years of laboratory research, formal coursework and participation in journal clubs and seminars. The training also includes participation in the Department of Surgery Annual Research Day, professional conferences and grant writing workshops. By the completion of the two-year period, trainees will have submitted at least two abstracts to national meetings and at least one first-authored original manuscript for peer review. The curriculum is designed to prepare the trainee to pursue a career as a surgeon scientist. Our program includes outstanding faculty and mentorship teams representing clinical and basic science departments. The faculty members include world class scientists, surgeons and biostatisticians with a long history of training and mentoring. By bringing together a team of mentors with a strong track record of research accomplishments as well as sustained experience in training post-graduate fellows, we plan to address an unmet need in the preparation of surgeons for a career in cancer research.
Applicants must be surgery residents currently in their second year of training or who have completed two years of clinical training. They also must be US citizens, non-citizen nationals or permanent residents of the United States.
The application deadline for this program is February 28th, 2022.
