Uropathology Fellowship

Led by director Fang-Ming Deng, MD, PhD. Opens in a new tab, NYU Langone’s Department of Pathology offers a one-year post-residency fellowship position in uropathology. Our fellowship is not accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Uropathology fellows work with a high volume of interesting and challenging diagnostic material from NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital. Opens in a new tab, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. Opens in a new tab, and a variety of ambulatory care referral centers. Our team has access to surgical material provided by a specialized urology service with an established uro-oncology division.

We encourage fellows to partner with clinical and basic science investigators to conduct translational research using resources available through tumor boards and our active research programs in prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer. In addition, the Prostate Cancer Biorepository Network. Opens in a new tab and well-developed scientific cores and shared resources provide suitable environments for translational research.

Our goal is for uropathology fellows to apply the clinical knowledge gained from participating in hands-on diagnosis and research to become proficient diagnosticians and productive scholars.

Prerequisites:

Applicants must have completed a three-year anatomic pathology residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or a four-year anatomic pathology and clinical pathology residency program accredited by the ACGME.

You must obtain a New York State license or limited permit before the fellowship start date, and possess sufficient qualifications for appointment to the medical staff.

NYU Langone offers J-1 visas to candidates in need of sponsorship exclusively through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

  • a completed College of American Pathologists (CAP) application for pathology fellowships. Opens in a new tab
  • a personal statement
  • your CV
  • a copy of your medical school transcript
  • MD candidates: a copy of your U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) score reports for all three steps
  • DO candidates: a copy of your Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX-USA) score reports
  • international candidates: a copy of your ECFMG certificate
  • three letters of recommendation dated within the past six months and addressed to the director of the fellowship you are applying for
