General Surgery Residency - Categorical Position

General Surgery Residency - Categorical Position

The University of Texas Health Science at Tyler has an immediate PGY-1 Categorical General Surgery Residency Position available.

UT Health East Texas is a 10-hospital system with more than 50 clinic locations covering East Texas. Our flagship hospital, UT Health Tyler, is a 502-bed level-1 trauma center serving as a tertiary referral center and will house the new residency program.

The goal of our ACGME-accredited residency program is to recruit and train confident, technically capable and well-rounded surgeons. Our program fosters intellectual development and independent residents who run our surgical services. Our faculty believes in education and understands the importance of autonomy and progressive responsibility. They want to see you plan and perform the entire procedure and mentor students and junior residents. We aim to graduate the type of surgeon others call upon. We have set up a comprehensive basic science, clinical, robotic and simulation curriculum. Residents will have the opportunity to participate in scholarly activity and to develop executive leadership skills through participation in hospital committees and Quality Improvement programs.

Program Highlights:

  • 5-year ACGME accredited program with 3 categorical residents per year
  • Dedicated Burn, Transplant and Pediatric Surgery rotations at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas
  • Residents perform all cases with no fellows to compete with.
  • Mid-level providers to help residents round and allow them to spend more time in the operating room
  • Hybrid program with a healthy mix of private and academic surgeons with exposure to rural medicine.
  • Protected educational activities including Basic science and Clinical conferences, M&M, Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs and Tumor boards.
  • ABSITE in-service exam preparation sessions, Mock-Oral exams and direct one-on-one mentorship by faculty.
