Vascular Diagnostic and Intervention Fellowship

The Vascular Diagnostic and Intervention Fellowship is a premier program at The Mount Sinai Hospital. It is a one-year, non-ACGME training program that will prepare trainees to sit for the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) and Society of Vascular Medicine and Biology certification examinations upon completion of the fellowship. The program is in addition to the ACGME-accredited Clinical Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship programs.

Fellows will obtain a broad exposure to comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for all non-coronary vascular diseases. Trainees will gain experience addressing a variety of disease pathologies, including: peripheral arterial, carotid, renal, aortic, mesenteric, and aneurysmal disorders; acute and chronic venous thromboembolic disease; hypercoagulability; uncommon causes of vascular diseases; and limb edema as well as interventions for these disease processes. In particular, trainees will obtain in-depth experience regarding all catheter-based interventions for vascular disease as well as non-invasive vascular testing, including a basic understanding of the performance and interpretation of these tests.

Ultimately, the trainee will pursue clinical research, present their findings at a regional or national symposium, and submit their research published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Prerequisites:

Trainees are interviewed and selected by the faculty members. There is currently no existing internal medicine sub-specialty match program for this type of fellowship post.

We are looking for applicants who will have had training in clinical cardiology and percutaneous coronary procedures. Applicants must have completed three (3) years of cardiology fellowship training and one (1) year of Interventional Cardiology training. Trainees should have experience in decision making regarding optimal treatment, including surgical and medical alternatives.
