Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is accepting applications for its ACGME-accredited Fellowship Program in Forensic Psychiatry . This program will lead to Board eligibility in Forensic Psychiatry. This ACGME-accredited program is sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry in the UAMS College of Medicine and the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Behavioral Health Services.

Program components include:

• Rotations at the Arkansas State Hospital Forensic Unit in Little Rock where fellows will conduct evaluations to include competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and competency to be executed. Fellows will also conduct violence risk assessments, sexual violence risk assessments, as well as assessments of suitability for conditional release and civil commitment. Fellows will have an opportunity to rotate through a state-of-the-art adolescent sexual offender unit and participate in juvenile court evaluations.
• Other rotations include experience in correctional psychiatry and experience with civil cases involving psychiatric disability, compensability, guardianship, parental fitness and other civil matters.
• Fellows also take courses at the University of Arkansas School of Law.
• Fellows will receive weekly supervision by Board-certified faculty, as well as ongoing discussion and supervision from on-site faculty members. Didactic program includes instruction in the principles and practice of forensic psychiatry, the basics of substantive and procedural law, and case conferences including forensic and psychopharmacologic issues.

Prerequisites:

Candidates must have completed a certified four year residency in general psychiatry and be eligible for an Arkansas State Medical License.
