Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Banner – University Medical Center Tucson is the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level I Trauma Center in Southern Arizona. We are a trauma center as well as a tertiary referral center, serving more than 1 million in population with over 5,000 trauma evaluations each year; 10% penetrating and 90% blunt traumas.

Our Division of Trauma, Critical Care, Burn and Emergency Surgery also staffs all trauma evaluations, 28-bed SICU, and inpatient emergency general surgery (EGS) consults. We see over 2,000 EGS consults each year.

Our SCC fellowship is overseen by seven full-time trauma/critical care surgeons. The curriculum includes six months in the surgical-trauma ICU, one month each in the pediatric, medical and cardiothoracic ICUs, two months of elective rotations and one month of research, with multiple opportunities to participate in both clinical and basic science projects.

Prerequisites:

• Graduation (PGY-5) from a ACGME-approved allopathic surgical residency
