The Breast/GYN Pathology Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center is a one year program that provides a thorough exposure to diagnostic breast and gynecologic surgical pathology as well as multidisciplinary management of breast and gynecologic disease. The department signs out approximately 3,675 in-house breast cases, 560 breast consult cases, 9700 gynecologic cases, and 325 gynecologic consult case yearly. The main objective of the program is to provide the fellow with proficient diagnostic skills, in-depth understanding of the implications of pathologic diagnoses in the management of breast and gynecologic cancer patients, and a unique translational research experience.
The fellow will conduct intraoperative gross examinations of breast and gynecologic specimens, sign out both in-house cases and consultation cases from outside clinics and hospitals, and discuss the cases at the weekly Multidisciplinary Breast Care Clinic Conference (Monday morning) and the Multidisciplinary Gynecologic Conference (Friday morning).
The fellow will also have the opportunity to conduct clinical and/or translational research projects which will be tailored to meet the individual's interests.
