The University of Kansas Surgical Research Fellowship is a dedicated 2-year clinical research experience available to current general surgery residents.
Structure:
Fellows will have the opportunity to choose the area of surgical research that is of most interest to them from the available surgical research faculty during their 2nd year in the program. Faculty mentors are available in the areas of Acute Care Surgery, Breast Surgical Oncology, General Surgery, Medical Student / Resident Education, General Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery or Surgical Microbiome (basic science). Research outside of these areas is not available and will not be considered as part of this program.
Research Fellows oversight will be from the fellowship program director (Dr. Guidry), individually identified primary research mentor who will guide the fellow and assist with clinical research topics throughout the program, and option to work with other secondary research mentors if desired.
Salary/Financial Support
Ideal candidates will apply during their PGY2 year, and start the program following completion of their PGY2 year. Alternate timing (following PGY1 year or following PGY3 year) will be considered on an individual basis, so applicants from these years are welcome.
All applicants should be residents currently in good standing in a surgery residency program. Current preliminary residents will be considered. Candidates who are not currently in surgical residency will note be considered. One candidate per year will be accepted.
Interested applicants should submit an updated CV including contact information for their current program director and at least two additional faculty references to the Fellowship Program Direct, Dr. Chris Guidry ([email protected]) and program coordinator Jennifer Penn Toure ([email protected]).
