Surgical Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

The Artificial Organs Lab is currently seeking a Surgical Postdoctoral Research Fellow to start on July 1, 2023.

The surgical fellow will work under the mentorship of Dr. Zhongjun Wu, PhD (Department of Surgery, Department of Bioengineering) and Dr. Bartley Griffith, MD (Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Research fellows will work with a team of bioengineers, physician residents, scientists, PhD students, and lab assistants.

The lab position involves operating on large animal models (sheep and swine) to test novel biomedical cardiopulmonary assist devices as well as ex-vivo lung perfusion and transplantation. The position involves some bench research. The work of this team has previously been published in journals such as JTCVS, JHLT, and Artificial Organs.

Prerequisites:

This position requires a 2-year commitment. Applicants must have completed a medical degree in addition to either PGY-2 or PGY-3 year in General Surgery or Integrated Thoracic Surgery Residency.
