Welcome to the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. This one-year clinical fellowship in geriatric psychiatry offers a rich combination of continuity and month-long experiences designed to provide psychiatrists with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders in late life with a focus on person-centered, multidisciplinary care.

The program’s diverse faculty all have clinical and research expertise in neuropsychiatric disorders of later life, with specialties ranging from geriatric psychiatry to neurology to hospice and palliative care medicine. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, fellows will be qualified to take the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology examination for certification in the subspecialty of geriatric psychiatry.

Prerequisites:

Before entry into the program, applicants must complete or have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited psychiatry residency program that qualifies them to sit for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology psychiatry examination.

How To Apply:

Applications must include the following:

  • Personal Statement discussing reasons for embarking on a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Three professional letters of recommendation. One letter must be from the applicant’s psychiatry training director, and it should document that the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. One letter must be from a geriatric psychiatry supervisor. It is preferred that these letters be sent directly via email from the letter writer.
  • Copy of medical school diploma and/or transcripts.
  • Documentation of post-graduate medical education completed elsewhere.
  • Documentation of successful passing scores on COMLEX or USMLE parts 1, 2 and 3.
  • Copies of state medical license(s), DEA certificate and board certifications, when applicable.
  • Documentation of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification, when applicable.
  • For international applicants, documentation of VISA status.
