Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

The University of Florida- Jacksonville has an open position starting August 1, 2023 in in its one-year ACGME-accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.

Core fellowship experiences are centered at the downtown campus of UF Health Jacksonville, a 696 bed teaching hospital. The hospital's 28 bed trauma/surgical intensive care unit and the region’s only adult and pediatric Level I trauma center resuscitates 4,500 Northeast Florida and South Georgia patients each year with approximately a 15% penetrating trauma rate in addition to a busy emergency general surgery service based on an Acute Care Surgery model that cares for approximately 1,500 consults annually.

We are a tertiary referral center for critically ill patients in the northeast Florida and southeast Georgia region including those in need of ECMO support and diaphragmatic pacemaker placement. In addition to rotations in the SICU, MICU, PICU and NeuroICU, we also offer rotations in Burns, CVICU and Trauma. Fellows in our program gain experience in the delivery of surgical critical care to severely injured and critically ill patients. They become competent in the application of advanced technology geared toward optimization of care for the physiologic derangements seen in critically ill patients. Fellows are also exposed to onsite instruction in the process of administration and management of critical care units, as well as contribute to the education of members of the critical care team. Fellows actively participate in our ongoing research programs. The fellowship is a one year commitment that allows sitting for the American Board of Surgery Surgical Critical Care certification examination after completion.
