Robotic Surgery Minimal Invasive Fellowship

The Division of GI Tumor and Endocrine Surgery (GITES) is now accepting applications for a one-year fellowship training offered to fully-trained BC/BE surgeons who desire further expertise in Robotic foregut/bariatric/abdominal wall reconstruction surgery. This fellowship is not accredited by Fellowship Council.

The grant is generously provided as part of educational advancement by Intuitive Foundation Inc. towards training the next generation surgeons on DaVinci Xi platform. Fellow will be exposed to both advanced Robotic and laparoscopic surgeries. This will provide the fellow an opportunity to become very well-trained in the field of MIS surgery. Our program has 5 dedicated faculty members. We run a bariatric program with a large supportive staff and we are level 1 accredited center. We perform approximately 150 foregut, 250 Bariatric procedures and 50 to 100 complex abdominal wall reconstructions among a vast number of general surgical operations.

The fellow is expected to have a wide exposure to foregut, reconstructive abdominal wall and bariatric surgery procedures. The fellow is expected to log approximately 250 to 300 cases by the end of the fellowship. There are department-wide and service-specific conferences that enhance both clinical and research activities. There is a weekly departmental Grand Rounds. The Division of GITES also has regular case conference, research conference, and monthly M&M meetings. Fellows have access to all conferences within the University. Research interests will be discussed with the fellow prior to the beginning of the fellowship with the hope that the fellow will be prepared to begin their research project soon after they start the program. It is expected that the fellow will complete at least one research project and submit it for publication during the program.

  • Personal Statement – this should include a description of the candidate’s qualifications and motivation for applying to the program,
  • Two letters of recommendation; one must be from the department chairman,
  • Photograph,
  • FLS and Robotic certification at completion of residency.

Selected candidates will be invited to interview via zoom or Skype. Fellowship starts 1st August and the final candidate will be appointed at the rank of instructor faculty level and is expected to obtain unrestricted Colorado medical board license.
