Genomic Medicine T32 Fellowship

This training grant is an Institutional Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) T32 grant funded by the NHGRI within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), created to prepare postdoctoral trainees for academic careers in genomic medicine. It assists trainees in obtaining skills necessary for the conception, planning, and conduct of research in genomic medicine and subsequent presentation and publication of results.

Trainees have the option of conducting their research either at University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham or HudsonAlpha Institute for biotechnology, Huntsville. There are also opportunities to participate in clinical and clinical laboratory activities in genomic medicine, as well as didactic and other educational activities.

Prerequisites:

  • Postdoctoral trainees must have received, as of the beginning date of the appointment, a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution. Comparable doctoral degrees include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • D.M.D., D.C., D.O., D.V.M., O.D., D.P.M., Sc.D., Eng.D., Dr. P.H., D.N.Sc., D.P.T., Pharm.D., N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathy), D.S.W., Psy.D, as well as a doctoral degree in nursing research. Documentation by an authorized official of the degree-granting institution certifying that all degree requirements have been met prior to the beginning date of the training appointment is acceptable.
  • Individuals in postgraduate clinical training, who wish to interrupt their studies for a year or more to engage in full-time research training before completing their formal training programs, are also eligible.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, noncitizen national, or have permanent resident status.
