Glaucoma Fellowship

The glaucoma fellowship is a one year clinical position in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The fellow works closely with six faculty members on the glaucoma service at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital. The program is AUPO FCC compliant.

The fellowship program emphasizes the development of expertise in all phases of the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. The fellow provides supervisory and teaching support for the residency program, both in the operating room and in outpatient glaucoma clinics at Cooper Green Hospital, Lions Clinic and the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital. Increasing responsibility for glaucoma surgery—including filters, shunts and cataracts—is provided throughout the year.

How To Apply:

All applications for the UAB Glaucoma Fellowship can be submitted using the C.A.S. Application Form.

The deadline for applications is September 1st of the year prior to the July 1st starting date for a fellowship.

The fellow will receive a faculty appointment at the rank of Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Alabama Heersink School of Medicine.
