Neurophysiology Fellowship

Thank you for your interest in the Neurophysiology Fellowship. The Neurophysiology Fellowship in the Department of Neurology at UNM in Albuquerque trains fellows in the interpretation of central nervous system neurophysiology, such as electroencephalogram (EEG), video EEG, evoked potentials and sleep medicine.

The year-long program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). By the end of the program, fellows will be proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. Training is available and required in electromyography, nerve conduction studies, intraoperative monitoring and polysomnography. Upon successful completion of the program, fellows will be eligible for the Added Qualifications Examination in Clinical Neurophysiology.

Prerequisites:

We will not consider any applicants who do not meet all of our qualifications. To apply to our program, we require you to:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, possess a green card or possess a J-1 Visa prior to initiation of training
  • Have successfully completed an ACGME accredited Neurology Training Program
  • Have an excellent documented command of the English language
  • Have the appropriate physical and mental health to be responsible for patients in a rigorous training environment
  • Not have had significant academic difficulty during his/her Neurology training. For example, failing or marginal grades in a significant portion of the curriculum or a failure to pass USMLE, Parts I, II and III

In order to apply to our program, we require the following:

  • A current CV
  • Personal statement
  • Copies of your United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) board scores (all three)
  • Three letters of recommendation. One should be from either the director of your neurology training program or the chairman.
  • Medical school transcripts
  • Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification, if applicable
  • Visa status, if applicable
