Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Division of General Surgery, Section of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual (post-residency or inter-residency) to join the section as a full-time Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Postdoctoral Researcher.

This fellowship is intended for those interested in developing a robust academic career and becoming a future leader in acute care surgery. The ACS Postdoctoral Fellowship will be a fully funded two-year experience that will provide the postdoc opportunities to initiate, design, and execute research projects, as well as perform data analyses, and produce a significant body of scholarship in Acute Care Surgery (trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care). For the appropriate candidate, there may also be an opportunity to build upon knowledge and skills by enrolling in a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Research or Health Policy.

Prerequisites:

    • Two-year commitment required
    • Strong background in study design, biostatistics, and/or health economics/policy
    • Experience in independently recruiting and leading a research team is a plus
    • Proficiency in basic data analysis and manuscript writing as evidenced in past publication

Duties and Areas of Growth:

  • Design and be actively engaged in basic and clinical research studies (retrospective/prospective observational, multi-institutional, randomized controlled trials) through all phases
  • Perform advanced literature reviews
  • Obtain approvals from the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Efficiently collect, clean (using STATA, R or Python), and analyze data
  • Conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Prepare and submit abstracts/manuscripts
  • Recruit and lead a research team
    • Leadership opportunity in the Section’s Surgeons Writing About Trauma (SWAT) research group
    • Teaching opportunity in the SURG238: Practical Introduction to Clinical Research course
  • Develop basic understanding of machine learning and strategic target journal selection
  • Draft NIH biosketch and grants
  • Participate in weekly conferences, meetings, and didactic education
