Body Imaging Fellowship

Body Imaging Fellowship

Due to unforeseen events, we now have an available fellowship spot for AY2020-2021 and AY2021-2022.

The body imaging fellowship is a one-year clinical fellowship designed to provide balanced, in-depth experience in all aspects of body imaging for individuals who have completed formal residency training in diagnostic radiology. Our faculty members have extensive experience in body imaging and are widely published and recognized at local, national, and international levels.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is the only liver and multivisceral transplant center in the Washington, DC region and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only designated cancer center in the area. These centers, combined with our medical and surgical specialties, provide exposure to transplant (liver, kidney and pancreas), oncologic, and vascular patients, in addition to general emergency, medical, and surgical patients, with a broad range of pathology.

Our fellows rotate through the various modalities in 13 four-week rotations (see below). In addition to more traditional diagnostic cross-sectional body imaging (CT, MR, and ultrasound), they will receive training in advanced CT imaging and reconstruction, and image-guided procedures. Fellows are assigned a weekly procedures day, during which they perform US and CT guided procedures, including fluid aspiration, drainage, and biopsies. When on US, they perform thyroid nodule FNAs, cervical lymph node and superficial mass biopsies, and hysterosonography, under direct supervision of body imaging faculty. The elective block offers significant flexibility and fellows can choose to supplement their training in their choice of field. In the past, our fellows have selected additional training in routine/high-risk OB imaging, mammography, cardiovascular, informatics, musculoskeletal, nuclear medicine, and image-guided interventional procedures.
