Restorative & Regenerative Surgery Innovation Research Fellowship

Our team welcomes applications from highly motivated individuals interested in learning and conducting research in the field of Plastic Surgery and become future leader surgeon-scientists.

Our research embracing all aspects of Plastic Surgery, ranging from tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, to medical devices, surgical education, surgical quality improvement, and global plastic surgery. The team currently include over ten talented members.

Two specific studies currently available are:

  1. A novel method to induce skeletal muscle regeneration after trauma in rats and in swine.
  2. A system that uses micro-sensors to monitor limb compartment syndrome in swine.

We are committed to provide opportunities to candidates to both advance their education and career, and to produce high-quality scholarly work. The scope of the research fellowship is individually discussed to take into account the candidate’s own interests, goals, and needs. Funding might be available on a case-by-case basis.

Each fellow is expected to independently lead at least two projects that will typically result in scientific publications. We provide guidance and additional training through all the phases of research from ideation to study design, conduction of experiments, data collection and analysis, presentation of outcomes, and manuscript drafting and submission. Career mentorship and advising to the fellow is a top priority of the program.

Prerequisites:

Although we will consider all applications, preference will be given to the following candidates:

  • 6+ months commitment - Starting date before March 2021 - M.D. and/or Ph.D.
  • Experience working with animals (rodents, possibly also swine)
  • Experience in wet lab techniques (histological and molecular analysis)
  • Experience in biomedical engineering and/or with the design of medical devices
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects
  • Good knowledge of biostatistics
  • English proficiency, excellent verbal and written communication skills
